Vivitrol Treatment

Vivitrol Treatments

A non-opioid, once-monthly injection to support long-term recovery.

What is a Vivitrol treatment?

Vivitrol is the brand name for long-acting injectable naltrexone. It blocks the effects of opioids and also treats alcohol dependence by binding to opioid receptors without activating them. It is designed for adults with opioid or alcohol dependence after detoxification.

How does Vivitrol work?

Vivitrol blocks mu-opioid receptors, preventing the “high” if opioids or alcohol are used. Patients are administered a monthly injection by our healthcare provider (gluteal muscle) every 4 weeks. Vivitrol should be used in tangent with counseling and recovery programs — not standalone.

Who is a good candidate for Vivitrol?

Patients who have completed opioid detox (opioid-free for a required interval) and are committed to relapse prevention or those with alcohol dependence who have stopped drinking and want to reduce relapse risk.
