Sublocade is an extended-release injectable form of buprenorphine used for moderate to severe opioid use disorder (OUD) It’s used for adults with OUD who have started with oral buprenorphine or are currently being treated with buprenorphine.

Sublocade is a buprenorphine (partial opioid agonist) that binds opioid receptors, reduces cravings & prevents full opioid effects. Its monthly injection gives steady medication levels (rather than daily pills/films) — reducing “ups and downs”. Benefits of Sublocade include fewer daily dosing decisions and potentially better adherence or stability.
Who is a good candidate for Sublocade treatments?
Sublocade is designed for Adults with moderate/severe Opioid Use Disorder that have been stabilized on oral (sublingual or buccal) buprenorphine and observed for at least 1 hour to confirm tolerability. These patients should be willing to engage in counseling and psychosocial support (since medication is part of full program). Sublocade is not appropriate for someone actively using large amounts of opioids without stabilization.
